Use Team chats

Team chat is a feature for real-time private collaboration between firm members. It allows to create internal channels for various topics (e.g., Tax return Q2, Tax season 2025, Internal issues), and to exchange direct messages securely within the portal.

El chat de equipo, explicado

The Team chat is ideal for complex and extensive conversations, such as confirming details before reaching out to a client or discussing non-client-related topics. This functionality is designed exclusively for private communication within the firm on the TaxDome web portal, ensuring that clients cannot see internal discussions.

There are 2 types of chats:

  • Channels — group chats. Can be public — available for everyone, or private — available for invited users, firm owners and admins ( more on managing channels );
  • Direct messages — for private 1-1 conversations with your coworkers.

Only one message can be pinned. New pinned message replaces the old one.

Add reactions to messages

You can react to messages in channels and direct messages using emojis. This is a quick way to show agreement, acknowledgment, or other reactions without sending a separate message. To add a reaction:

  1. Hover over the three dots in the top-right of the message.

  2. Select one of the three suggested emojis or click the emoji icon to view the full list.

To remove a reaction, click the emoji you added.

How reactions work:

  • Any team member can add one or more emoji reactions to a message.
  • A counter on each emoji shows how many team members have reacted with that emoji.
  • Hover over an emoji to see the names of team members who reacted.
  • Reactions do not generate notifications and do not affect the read status of the channel.

Search messages

You can quickly find messages in Team chats and direct messages using the search feature. To search:

  1. Navigate to Team chat from the sidebar menu.

  2. Click the Search icon.

  1. Enter a keyword or phrase in the search bar. The search will look for matches in message text across all channels and direct messages available to you, including public channels you are not a member of.

  2. Click a result to open the conversation at the exact message.

You can copy a link to any message right from the search window by clicking the Copy link button.

How do I know that I’ve got a new message?

Channels with new messages are highlighted in bold on the Team chat page, and if the current logged-in firm member has not read them, a counter of unread messages with @mentions next to the channel name is displayed.

For general updates, the green dot will appear in the left sidebar menu. If you were mentioned directly, you’ll see a number and receive an Inbox+ notification .

Additionally, you can set up both sound and browser notifications for new messages in team chats. Browser notifications help ensure you don’t miss important messages even when you’re not actively in TaxDome.

Channels and 1-1 conversations with new messages appear at the top of the Team tab.

To receive alerts and be notified immediately when someone sends you a direct message, enable push notifications:

  1. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Push notifications.

  3. Turn on notifications for messages.

Set up sound/browser notifications

To set up sound and/or browser notifications:
